USA- Fast-food chain KFC has expanded its Saucy Nuggets lineup with three new flavours: Honey Garlic, Chipotle Ranch, and Mango Habanero sauces, in a move meant to diversify offerings to customers.

The three new offerings are expected to complement the existing two flavours- Honey BBQ and Korean BBQ options.

According to KFC, the new Honey Garlic sauce offers a spicy and sweet taste profile, adding a new scope to its classic garlic and honey taste.

The Chipotle Ranch flavour combines the tangy flavour of creamy ranch with the heat of chipotle peppers. The Mango Habanero combines the heat of habanero peppers with the sweetness of mango.

The fast food chain will mark the launch of the three new flavours with a US tour with the JFC Sauce Serve Truck starting August 17 until the end of the third quarter.

The campaign will kick off at the Seaport Square at Pier 17 in New York City. The campaign will proceed to Austin, Texas before heading to Ann Arbor, Michigan in September.

KFC will offer free nuggets and allow customers to sample the new flavours. The company will also offer gift cards and limited-edition merchandise during the campaign.

The new flavours are an extension of the fast food giant’s offering diversification strategy meant to maintain much-needed congruence with changing market trends.

Nick Chavez, KFC’s CMO, said, “One of the big trends we see, particularly among younger customers, is this desire for sauces and flavours. This generational notion of, ‘I want to dip and drench and dunk everything in the flavours that I choose’.”

The company revealed it has deliberately reformulated its sauce recipes to reduce calorie, sugar and salt content, which is also congruent with the increasing market awareness of the nutritional value of QSR offerings, especially among its younger customer base.

In February, KFC launched Chizza, the pizza-inspired fried chicken filets topped with melted mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce and crispy pepperoni.

In March, the QSR leader further diversified its menu offering with the launch of Apple Pie Poppers, a dessert item priced at US$2.49 alongside five other saucy nuggets flavours (available for a limited time).
