SWITZERLAND – Hotel Schweizerhof Zurich has joined the Five-Star Elite as of August 2024.
Schweizerhof Zurich has captivated guests worldwide for nearly 150 years with its blend of historic charm and modern luxury.
This achievement culminates a decade of continuous quality enhancements and modernization efforts. With an investment of approximately 15 million Swiss francs, the hotel now boasts 95 elegantly appointed rooms and suites, reflecting its commitment to excellence.
Shweizerhof Zürich thus becomes the most centrally located five-star hotel directly at Zurich’s main train station.
“We are proud and delighted with this new classification. It is the result of hard work, dedication, and continuous efforts to offer the best to our guests,” says Andreas Stöckli, General Manager of the hotel at Bahnhofplatz.
“Our goal has always been to honor the tradition of the house while anticipating the needs of the future.”
Hotel Schweizerhof Zurich boasts a rich history dating back to 1876, originally built as Hotel National and opened the following year.
Over the decades, this esteemed establishment has undergone numerous expansions, renovations, and name changes, continually evolving to meet the needs of its guests.
These updates included merging rooms, reducing the total from 115 to 95, creating a functional boutique gym, renovating modern meeting rooms, and refurbishing event spaces.
In 2020, Hotel Schweizerhof Zurich embarked on its first five-star experience by introducing the exclusive suites “The Dufour by Hotel Schweizerhof Zurich.”
This successful venture played a crucial role in elevating the entire hotel operation to a five-star status.
The decision to elevate Hotel Schweizerhof Zurich to five-star status marks a return to its illustrious beginnings.
Opened nearly 150 years ago as a Grand Hôtel, this historic establishment has seen various classifications over the years, including periods as a three-star hotel and, more recently, a four-star superior hotel.
This transition to the five-star category reflects a dedication to preserving the hotel’s rich tradition while embracing future needs.
