SWITZERLAND- Multinational fast food franchise Subway has entered a master franchise agreement with Convenience House Schweiz to expand into Liechtenstein and Switzerland.
The franchise agreement will see the opening of 70 new Subway restaurants over the next seven years. According to Subway, the franchise agreement will double the company’s presence in the region.
Convenience House Schweiz will have exclusive rights to set up and manage Subway markets in the two countries.
The convenience retailers welcomed the move, reiterating the congruence of the two company’s objectives in terms of brand development and expansion in Switzerland and beyond.
Convenience House Schweiz also revealed it would prioritize accessibility and guest experience by modernizing the restaurants, albeit in a way that aligns with Subway’s corporate image.
Sebastian Becker, Convenience House Schweiz’s CEO, said, “Subway is a well-established, globally recognized brand with dedicated franchisees and a loyal consumer base.”
“We are committed to bringing guests the freshly made, crave-able food that has made Subway a favorite in the quick service restaurant industry while also driving innovation to meet the evolving needs of guests.”
The franchisee also revealed plans of implementing in-restaurant digital enhancements like self-service kiosks. These digital enhancements are expected to streamline operations through reducing wait times, ordering processes and reducing workloads on employees.
These plans align with Subway’s digital transformation strategy across Europe. In June, the fast food company rolled out similar digital enhancements across the United Kingdom, Germany and Finland.
Such digital enhancements should help drive traffic and sales.
Subway also welcomed the move, reiterating the value for growth strong partnerships bring as it continues on its market penetration and global expansion path.
Carrie Walsh, Subway’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) President, said, “Subway restaurants in Switzerland and Liechtenstein are incredibly popular, and demand from guests looking for a convenient, affordable and satisfying meal, continues to rise.”
“Convenience House Schweiz and its founders bring decades of convenience retail experience and market expertise that will enable us to accelerate our growth in the region while continuing to elevate our food and guest experience.”
