AUSTRALIA- Multinational pizza chain Domino’s Pizza has revealed its latest menu innovation, Pizza Dog, a combination of pizza and hotdogs.

The Pizza Dog is made with Kransky-style sausage, muzzled with tomato sauce, combined with crisped dough and topped with mozzarella cheese.

The menu innovation comes in three flavours: Classic, Double Cheese, and Cheese & Bacon. It will retail at AU$3 (US$2.02) and AU$5.5 (US$3.7).

Pizza Dog is available for order online, through the company’s app and in-store.

Michael Tracey, Domino’s Head of Product Development praised the new product offering, stating the range will take the pizza chain ‘where no quick serve restaurant in Australia has gone before.’

Tracey also revealed the new offering was a testament of the company’s commitment to innovation and was inspired by consumers’ increasing acceptance of novel taste experience.

The product development head said, “We’re seeing consumers increasingly experiment with new taste experiences. We want to offer consumers something different that moves them out of their typical takeaway comfort zone. A recipe for success if you will.”

The QSR giant also revealed it was deliberate about Pizza Dog’s pricing. The new offering is intended to cater to the taste preferences of both hot dog and pizza lovers, while at the same time offering great value for money.

Allan Collins, Domino’s Chief Marketing Officer for the ANZ region, said, “Pizza Dogs have to be one of my favourite new menu items that don’t just offer a taste sensation but are also fantastic value for money.”

“They are the perfect on the go snack or addition to your favourite pizza order.”

Pizza Dog’s launch is a continuation of the pizza chain’s strategy of experimenting and innovating its menu offering, with the intention of rejuvenating the chain’s brand while at the same time catering to the diverse needs of customers.

In late July, Domino’s launched the Cheeseburger Pizza, a pizza line loaded with cheeseburger ingredients.

The Cheeseburger pizza, retailing at AU$12 (US$8.08) features beef burger pieces, melty American cheese, tangy burger sauce, butter pickles, and gooey mozzarella cheese.

The innovative menu offerings are considered part of the fast food giant’s response to a challenging market environment, as QSR chains worldwide struggle with high inflation that has increased cost pressures and prices.
