SOUTH AFRICA – The Winston Hotel in Rosebank is undergoing extensive renovations and is scheduled to reopen later this year as the Park Hyatt Johannesburg.

The Winston has been well- known for its elegant and stylish classic design and its location in the quiet and leafy streets of upper Rosebank. Ther property was acquired in 2022 by the Farooqui family’s private equity investment company, Millat.

The Park Hyatt Johannesburg will have only 31 rooms. All 31 rooms at the property will feature king beds and workstations. There will only be two categories of guest rooms (with the difference being the views), plus four categories of suites.

The Park Hyatt Johannesburg will also have a restaurant with a dining room and outdoor terrace. Then there will be a bar, as well as an event space for conferences and meetings, which can accommodate up to 60 guests.

With just 31 rooms, this will be the world’s smallest Park Hyatt in terms of the number of keys.

Yabu Pushelberg, a design firm that previously worked on Park Hyatt New York, Park Hyatt Shenzhen, and Park Hyatt Bangkok, is overseeing the renovations.

While the renovation is taking longer than planned, the hotel is now accepting reservations for stays as of October 15, 2024.

The Park Hyatt Rosebank is believed to be the fourth collaboration between Hyatt and the Millat Group in South Africa, the others being Hyatt House Johannesburg Rosebank, Hyatt Regency Cape Town and Hyatt House Johannesburg Sandton.

Hyatt’s Africa portfolio comprises 13 properties in total, including the super-luxe Park Hyatt Zanzibar.

Earlier this year, Hyatt Hotels shared its expected growth trajectory for 2024 and beyond, across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), underscored by a record year of deal signings in 2023.

Hyatt noted a record pipeline of 127,000 rooms worldwide as of year-end 2023, with key markets including Spain, the U.K., Italy, Portugal and Greece. This represents nearly 40 percent of existing rooms in the Hyatt portfolio.

Hyatt’s growth in 2024 and beyond includes an EMEA pipeline of over 70 properties spanning the company’s brand collections.

Timeless Collection properties deliver the comforts of a home away from home with a consistently elevated experience.

This year is marked by significant expansion, particularly with the addition of two properties to the Park Hyatt brand. This expansion follows the notable opening of Park Hyatt Marrakech in December 2023.

Additionally, select service brands Hyatt House and Hyatt Place continue to foster Hyatt’s entry into secondary markets. This year’s openings include Hyatt House Leeds and Hyatt Place Leeds, Park Hyatt Johannesburg and Park Hyatt London River Thames.

Boundless Collection hotels include, most notably, four Thompson Hotels properties, including the recently opened Thompson Madrid, Thompson Rome, Thompson Seville and Thompson Vienna.

The Inclusive Collection is expected to expand with notable entries into key resort destinations including Dreams Madeira Resort, Spa & Marina; and Zoëtry Halkidiki Resort & Spa.
