AUSTRALIA – The Sofitel Wentworth, a historic landmark in Sydney’s CBD, has announced a US$36 million renovation plan to modernize the iconic 15-story hotel while preserving its cherished heritage facade.
The extensive refurbishment, led by renowned Australian architecture and interior design firm Fender Katsalidis, is scheduled for completion by late 2024.
Since its debut in 1966 on Wentworth Street, Sofitel Wentworth has been a staple of luxury in Sydney, famed for its strategic location near the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
The renovation aims to update the hotel’s 436 guest rooms and suites with contemporary amenities designed to cater to the modern international traveler.
The project will introduce a new hospitality precinct that includes two restaurants, two bars, and one of Sydney’s largest rooftop terraces.
Additionally, the renovation plans feature a state-of-the-art Health and Wellness studio with a fully equipped gym and a club lounge accessible to members and day pass holders.
The hotel’s grand entrance lobby and the Wentworth Ballroom are set for a major redesign to enhance their aesthetic appeal and functionality.
This ambitious project reflects Sofitel Wentworth’s commitment to blending its rich history with cutting-edge facilities, ensuring it remains one of Sydney’s premier destinations for travellers seeking both heritage and modern luxury.
To celebrate this major overhaul, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is extending a grand opening offer to event planners with special privileges. Events booked by 31 December will feature a Café Gourmand Coffee Cart experience, a chef-curated menu upgrade and loyalty points.
Other benefits include Sofitel’s relationship with CSR—the brand will donate AU$1,000 (US$660) to the charity of an organiser’s choice. Sofitel will also provide invitations to top Sydney performances and gift certificates.
Sofitel is part of the leading hospitality group Accor. It was the first international luxury hotel brand to originate from France.
