TANZANIA – The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, an American multinational company which operates the luxury hotel chain – The Ritz-Carlton, is set to open its first property in Sub-Saharan Africa in Tanzania.
According to The Citizen, Tanzania is set to make history as the first Sub-Saharan African country to introduce The Ritz-Carlton brand as part of its tourism growth stories. Having a Ritz-Carlton property will elevate Tanzania’s status as a luxury tourist destination.
Ritz-Carlton is a hotel brand under the marriott hotel group and is considred to be a luxury brand under Marriott group together with the likes of St. Regis hotels, Bulgari brand and even JW Marriott.
It is not clear who Marriott has partnered with but the property is expected to be set up at Serengeti. JW Marriott already has a property at Maasai Mara reserve which borders Serengeti.
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company has 108 luxury hotels and resorts in 30 countries and territories with 29,158 rooms, in addition to 46 hotels with 8,755 rooms planned for the future.
The brand has a presence in Morocco and Egypt and this will be the first property south of the Sahara.
Last year, Tanzania earned US$3.4 billion from travel receipts after receiving over 1.8 million tourists. The tourism ministry projects that the figure could rise to $6 billion by 2025 as it expects five million tourists.
This comes months after Radisson Hotel Group expanded its African portfolio with seven new hotels, marking its debut in Tanzania in the first half of 2024.
This addition of over 1,200 hotel rooms brings the Group’s total footprint in Africa to nearly 100 hotels in operation and development, advancing towards its target of 150 hotels within the next five years.
The hotel enhances the Group’s diverse African portfolio, spanning across 30 countries, further establishing it as the hotel company with the largest market presence in Africa.
