SOUTH AFRICA – Ellerman House, a luxury hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, has claimed third place in The Telegraph‘s World’s Best 50 Hotels in 2024.

This prestigious ranking is another significant accolade for the hotel, highlighting its position as one of the top luxury destinations globally.

Ellerman House is one of Cape Town’s most premium hotels, with only 13 rooms and a pair of multi-level luxury villas. It is well-known for its stunning sea views and rich collection of South African art.

Throw in an outstanding Wine Gallery with over 9,000 bottles of South African wine and a variety of complimentary inclusions ranging from art tours to sunset beverages, and you will see why this tiny boutique hotel is one of the most sought-after addresses on the beautiful Atlantic coast.

The hotel houses one of Africa’s largest private art collections, allowing guests to explore African creativity. This year, the collection expanded to include a signature sculpture by the acclaimed artist Willem Boshoff.

The Art Gallery and the helix-shaped Wine Gallery invite guests to immerse themselves in art and South African fine wine, respectively.

Carol Kohne, CEO of Ellerman House, expressed her delight at the latest accolade.

We are thrilled by this recognition, especially after our recent refurbishment. It’s a testament to our dedicated staff, who work tirelessly to create a unique luxury experience,” she said.

Kohne emphasized the honour of being considered one of the world’s top hotels, particularly among Cape Town’s growing luxury hotel scene.

The Telegraph, one of the UK’s most respected media outlets, conducted the awards based on reviews from a panel of 24 expert hotel critics.

These judges evaluated over 10,000 hotels worldwide, using their expertise and a unique formula to select the best. The panel was split into five regions—Europe, Asia, Americas and Caribbean, Africa, and Oceania—to ensure thorough and diverse input.

Ellerman House is immediately ranked behind Bangkok’s famed Mandarin Oriental and Ballyfin, an Irish luxury country estate. However, it also put Ellerman House ahead of The Peninsula Hong Kong, another Asian icon, and the three-Michelin-star hotel Les Prés d’Eugénie in France.

The judges praised the lengthy list of complimentary features for all guests at the ‘discreetly elegant’ Ellerman House, as well as the sunset patio and ‘big pool gleaming in the terraced garden below’.

Ellerman House has had a successful year in terms of awards: It was named the Best City Hotel in Africa in the prestigious Travel + Leisure ‘World’s Best Awards’ 2024.
