MOZAMBIQUE/TANZANIA –  Airlink, a South African regional carrier, has announced an increase in its service between Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) and Beira Airport (BEW) in Mozambique and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Effective immediately, the airline is introducing an additional return flight on Wednesdays to Beira, a coastal city in central Mozambique.

With this expansion, Airlink now offers daily flights between the two destinations, enhancing connectivity and travel options for passengers.

This service enhancement is expected to benefit both business and leisure travellers, strengthening economic ties between South Africa and Mozambique. It also improves access to Beira, an important port city and gateway to central Mozambique.

The increased frequency reflects growing demand on this route and Airlink’s commitment to serving the Southern African region.

This development is likely to support trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two countries, contributing to regional economic growth.

Additionally, the airline also announced that it had added another flight along its Johannesburg to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania route, starting 21 September.

This additional flight to Dar es Salaam will go out on Saturdays.

Airlink was launched in 1992 and is now one of the biggest domestic airlines in Africa, with flights to 45 destinations in 15 countries across Africa.

Recently, Qatar Airways acquired a 25% stake in the South African regional carrier Airlink as part of its ambitions to expand operations further across Africa.

Qatar Airways will gain two seats on Airlink’s 14 member board and will have 25% shareholder voting rights.

The partnership also aims to align both carriers’ loyalty programs – Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Airlink Skybucks.

With a 25% equity stake in Airlink, Qatar Airways will take the maximum foreign ownership share that South African regulators allow for airlines.
