AFRICA – The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism and UN Tourism are set to host the first-ever UN Tourism Africa & Americas Summit scheduled to take place from October 3 to 5, 2024.
The summit will take place in the coastal city of Punta Cana.
The inaugural UN Tourism Africa & Americas Summit is intended to bring together key stakeholders from the tourism sectors of both Africa and the Americas to encourage collaboration, and exchange of ideas and celebrate the potential of the two regions in driving tourism in the future.
According to UN Tourism, the summit is expected to deepen the connection between the two regions, both rich in biodiversity, cultural heritage, and tourism potential.
The two regions are poised to experience growth in their travel and tourism sectors in the coming years.
According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), the African Travel & Tourism market is expected to generate US$23.37 billion in revenue by the end of 2024. It is also projected to grow at a combined annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.49% to generate a revenue of US$33.5 billion by 2029.
The Travel & Tourism market in the Americas is expected to reach a market valuation of US$246.8 billion by the end of 2024 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.25% between 2024 and 2029.
The summit, therefore, offers a unique platform to explore shared challenges and opportunities, promote sustainable tourism development, and enhance cross-continental partnerships that benefit local communities and economies.
It will bring together stakeholders like government officials from both regions, enterprises, startups, and the like to engage in high-level discussions that focus on key areas like innovation, sustainability, cultural exchange, and investments.
The summit will also feature panels, workshops, and networking opportunities for attendees.
Attendees and participants will explore relevant strategies for encouraging tourism in the two regions while prioritizing empowering local communities and sustainability.
The event represents a crucial step in leveraging tourism for economic development and cultural diplomacy, positioning Africa and the Americas as leading global destinations for authentic, sustainable travel experiences.
