SOUTH AFRICA – Fine dining restaurant Salsify at the Roundhouse has been crowned Africa’s Best Landmark Restaurant for the second consecutive year at the World Culinary Awards.
The announcement was made during the event’s winners dinner On October 3 at the Summersalt, Jumeirah Al Naseem Hotel in Dubai.
The World Culinary Awards is an initiative meant to recognize and reward excellence in the culinary sector, started in 2019.
Nina du Toit, Salsify’s Head Chef, said, “It has been six years since Salsify first opened its doors. Awards like these acknowledge our efforts and reward us for the time we’ve taken to get here and the time we put into every day to make Salsify an exceptional experience for our guests.”
The restaurant is located in Cape Town’s Roundhouse Building, which dates back to 1786.
Salsify offers a unique restaurant experience because it offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, albeit against what many guests describe to Tripadvisor as the ‘majestic backdrop’ of Lion’s Head.
The fine dining restaurant’s interior design elicits romantic tones with its retro edge, colorful mid-century leather, and velvet chairs that blend well with the white linens that drape the windows.
The romantic experience is also elicited by the bold modern art that define the restaurant’s three dining rooms.
The first is the Sea Room, a light-filled dining area where guests can enjoy Salsify’s hyper-seasonal menu with views of the Atlantic Ocean.
The second is the Seasonal Room, centered around the Origami floral installation. The room features thousands of the restaurant’s menus, some dating back to its opening, folded meticulously into flowers that symbolize Salsify’s journey over the years and the restaurant’s commitment to sustainability.
The third dining space is the Preservation Chamber, where guests can kick start their Salsify experience with a welcome cocktail and gifts from the kitchen.
Ryan Cole, Salsify’s Executive Chef and Co-Owner, said, “We are fortunate enough to work from one of the most incredible locations in Cape Town, between land and sea. I am incredibly proud of my team and grateful for the acknowledgment.”
