AFRICA – Kasada, a real estate private equity firm in Africa’s hospitality sector, has partnered with Winnow, an AI-driven technology company specializing in food waste reduction.

This collaboration aligns with Kasada’s dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Currently, 14 hotels in Kasada’s portfolio have implemented Winnow’s technology. This large-scale rollout marks a significant step in improving food waste management and supporting Kasada’s sustainability initiatives.

The company focuses on reducing carbon emissions, conserving water, effectively managing waste, and positively impacting African communities and economies.

Winnow develops AI technology to help chefs reduce food waste and run sustainable kitchens, cutting waste by half.

Since its start in 2013, Winnow has expanded to over 2,000 sites worldwide, operating in 77 countries with offices in cities like Chicago, London, and Dubai.

As a registered B Corporation, Winnow users save US$54 million annually, preventing 45 million meals from being wasted.

Winnow’s solutions allow hotels to measure and analyze the financial and operational effects of food waste.

This data-driven approach helps hotels identify effective strategies for reducing food waste. Kasada’s hotels, known for their guest experiences, dining, and recreation, see food waste reduction as a critical goal.

Early results reveal that Kasada’s hotels have cut food waste by 20%-50%. According to Kasada’s co-CEOs, Olivier Granet and David Damiba, reducing food waste can significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions.

They emphasized the importance of sustainable hospitality and expressed pride in collaborating with Winnow.

Marc Zornes, CEO of Winnow, praised Kasada’s forward-thinking approach and commitment to accelerating positive change in the industry in terms of food waste reduction.

Kasada is Africa’s leading independent real estate private equity platform specializing in the hospitality sector. With the support of the Qatar Investment Authority and Accor, Kasada launched its first fund in 2019, raising over US$500 million.
