UK – Point of Sale (POS) and e-commerce software provider Lightspeed Commerce has integrated Uber Direct and Uber Eats Marketplace into its platform.

The partnership will enable the e-commerce software provider’s restaurant clients to list their menu offerings and take orders from the Uber Eats marketplace.

Uber Direct will also leverage Lightspeed’s ‘Order Anywhere’ feature. The feature allows merchants to take orders through their own website, thanks to direct access to Uber Direct.

Uber’s on-demand delivery platform for businesses allows merchants to integrate a range of applications and services with an order delivery system that uses the company’s API, automating the process of sending a courier for pick-up and delivery.

Caroline Varga, Head of Uber Direct for the UK, welcomed the move by saying, “On-demand delivery is now a core expectation for consumers, with 75% of them expecting express delivery as an option, and merchants are taking note.”

“We’re proud to partner with Lightspeed to offer restaurants solutions that meet their customers’ needs and encourage repeat orders while giving restaurants the flexibility to offer seamless delivery experiences in the way that works best for growing their business.

Lightspeed also reiterated through the partnership, that its restaurant partners and caterers will be allowed to pay the associated delivery fare without the additional costs that would be involved in developing their own customized delivery fleet.”

The partnership has been rolled out in North America and will soon expand to Europe (and the UK) before being rolled out in Asia and the Middle East.

The solutions offered through the partnership will enable merchants in the UK to satisfy their customers’ delivery demands, tap into new markets through the Uber Eats marketplace, and reduce overhead on direct-to-consumer orders with Lightspeed Order Anywhere and Uber Direct.

JD Saint-Martin, Lightspeed’s President, also welcomed the partnership. He reiterated the partnership is set to unlock value for its restaurant and hospitality clients, especially as the restaurant sector faces significant challenges with staffing and declining revenue margins.

He described the partnership as synonymous with a ‘cost-savings plan’ for its clients. Lightspeed’s head also described the partnership as an important first step in a long-term relationship with Uber.
