INDIA – Restaurant aggregator and food delivery company Zomato has launched a comprehensive framework for its delivery partners, designed to enhance their physical, mental, social, and professional well-being.

The food delivery company’s new framework was created after a year of thorough discussions with partners across India.

The framework incorporates feedback from worker rights research organizations and experts like Jan Pahal, ensuring it is both comprehensive and applicable to the country’s gig economy.

It identifies five main areas of well-being, which are supported by nine specific elements: payouts and earnings, grievance resolution, delivery experience, attire and assets, financial inclusion and social security, health and safety, diversity and respect, growth and retention, and knowledge acquisition.

Each element is further divided into sub-elements to facilitate a detailed assessment of delivery partners’ well-being. For example, the payouts and earnings element addresses factors such as the timeliness of payments, access to tips, and support for delivery expenses through third-party collaborations.

The framework was tailored to the experiences of Indian delivery partners through a review conducted by Social Compact, while a consultative workshop with industry bodies and labor rights organizations helped to refine its approach.

The chassis is a continuation of the delivery platform’s strategy of enhancing both employee and user experiences as it seeks a competitive edge in the promising food delivery market. The well-being framework is intended to retain talent.

Zomato recently launched a group ordering feature in its app, aimed at making it easier for users to place food orders for multiple people. This feature enables users to collectively add items to a single cart via a shared link, thus enhancing the convenience of group ordering.

Swiggy, Zomato’s competitor has also introduced a similar group ordering feature.

Zomato’s founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal, said, “The introduction of this feature is designed to eliminate the need to pass a phone around for individuals to select their orders.”

“The service is being introduced in phases. We’re gradually making it available to all customers. If the feature is available to you, try it for your house party tonight and let us know how it goes.”
