INDIA – Food delivery platform Swiggy has launched the Swiggy seal initiative in 650 Indian cities to improve hygiene practices and food quality standards among its restaurant partners.
The initiative, which began in Pune, is set to expand to additional cities starting in November 2024, according to reports from Mint.
On the Swiggy app, restaurant menu pages will now display a Swiggy Seal, identifying partner restaurants that consistently provide hygienic, high-quality meals in superior packaging.
The company intends to leverage its seven million verified customers to gather reviews over a six-month period, which will offer insights into restaurant performance and ensure the delivery of well-prepared food in quality packaging.
Customer feedback will be shared with restaurant partners to help improve their service and practices.
Key focus areas for this initiative include optimal cooking techniques, contamination prevention, and packaging quality.
In addition to customer reviews, Swiggy is collaborating with accredited agencies Equinox and Eurofins, recognized by the Food Safety Standards Authority of India, to provide professional hygiene audits and guidance through the Swiggy Owner app.
The platform also plans to offer restaurant partners access to cleaning and pest control services via the app, and will conduct training sessions for restaurant staff to emphasize the importance of hygiene.
This initiative is part of Swiggy’s broader strategy to enhance its services and gain a competitive advantage over rivals such as Zomato in the growing Indian restaurant market.
In October 2024, Swiggy launched Bolt, a ten-minute food delivery service aimed at customers seeking quick meals from quick-service restaurants within a two-kilometre radius.
Bolt aims to balance speed with the preservation of food quality and freshness. The service has already partnered with 2,700 restaurants, including well-known chains like KFC, McDonald’s, and Starbucks.
Currently, Bolt is available in major Indian cities, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune. This service collaborates with restaurants that can fulfill orders quickly, focusing on menu items designed for rapid preparation.
The operational model of Bolt is structured to enable fast deliveries without compromising food quality. Swiggy’s delivery partners are not informed about the differences between Bolt and regular orders, ensuring they are not penalized or incentivized based on delivery speed.
