UK – Retail giant IKEA has announced its entry into the high-street dining sector with the launch of its first stand-alone restaurant in the UK.
Located next to the recently renovated IKEA Hammersmith City Store, IKEA’s new restaurant offers seating for 75 patrons and serves a variety of Swedish dishes.
The venue, previously occupied by a Wasabi restaurant, aims to complement the shopping experience by providing customers with a convenient dining spot featuring a range of traditional Swedish meals.
The menu includes popular items like IKEA’s signature meatballs, plant-based balls, pasta with tomato sauce for children, fish and chips, and a selection of breakfast items.
Pricing is consistent with IKEA’s in-store restaurants across the UK, with options ranging from £2.75 ($3.56) for a small breakfast to £5.50 for meatballs with classic sides.
Meal prices start as low as 95p for children’s options, with main dishes like fish and chips or salmon priced at £6.95. Additionally, the restaurant features items from IKEA’s bistro and café menus, such as hotdogs, ice cream, and a variety of desserts.
To celebrate the opening, IKEA Hammersmith is offering IKEA Family Members a £5 in-store discount when they spend £5 or more at the new restaurant on the same day, available through November 30.
Matthew Gould, IKEA London City market manager, noted that the high-street restaurant aims to deliver the familiar IKEA dining experience in a central shopping location.
He expressed excitement for the new venture, adding that customers now have the option to enjoy IKEA’s well-known Swedish meatballs, take a traditional Swedish “fika” coffee break, or treat children to affordable meals right on the high street.
Operating hours for the restaurant are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays, and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays, with breakfast served until 11 a.m.
IKEA UK shared that this expansion supports its mission to provide a more accessible shopping experience by positioning itself closer to where people live, work, and shop.
Alongside the high-street restaurant, IKEA plans to continue developing flexible customer services with the goal of integrating its presence within urban areas across the country.
