UGANDA – The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has launched Explore Uganda, a mobile application meant to grow the tourism sector through enhancing visibility.

The newly launched app is poised to significantly increase interest in exploring Uganda, aiming to establish the country as a preferred travel destination.

Key features of the application include informative services that offer detailed insights into tourist attractions, accommodations, restaurants, and cafés.

It also incorporates location-based search options for discovering events and festivals, a feedback system for user interaction, and in-app customer support to enhance the user experience.

Additionally, the app includes a financial feature with multi-currency support and current exchange rates, real-time weather updates, access to licensed tour operators, travel agents and guides, transportation services, and investment opportunities within the tourism sector.

The app is available in multiple languages, including English, French, Swahili, Spanish, and German.

Explore Uganda is designed to provide visitors with seamless navigation of Uganda’s tourism offerings, serving as a comprehensive guide that includes essential information on travel, accommodation, culture, entertainment, and itineraries that showcase Uganda’s diverse tourism experiences.

During the app’s launch in Kampala, Lilly Ajarova, CEO of UTB, highlighted that the application represents a significant step toward engaging modern travelers by providing an interactive experience that showcases the country’s beauty and diversity.

She emphasized that the app serves not only as a tool but also as an invitation for global audiences to explore Uganda in unprecedented ways.

Ajarova stated that the goal is to position Uganda at the forefront of global tourism, utilizing technology to make its stunning landscapes, rich culture, biodiversity, and unique experiences accessible to everyone.

She indicated that this app is just the beginning of a broader strategy to enhance the tourism sector, boost the economy, and establish Uganda as a must-visit destination worldwide.

Pearl Kakooza, the board chairperson of UTB, pointed out that the mobile app highlights the importance of digital transformation in Uganda’s tourism development and marks a significant milestone in efforts to position the country as a premium destination for both domestic and international travelers.

Despite Uganda’s considerable tourism potential, visibility and accessibility have posed challenges.

Kakooza explained that the evolving tourism landscape reflects shifting traveler preferences towards self-guided experiences.
