EUROPE – Sustainable catering tech SaaS company Kanpla has secured €8 million (US$8.7 million) in Series A funding to expand its catering tech solutions across Europe and enter the US market.
Dutch venture capital firm HenQ led the funding round.
Kanpla’s technology assists in reducing food waste, meeting sustainability objectives, and managing varying demand—issues that have become increasingly relevant as organizations shift towards flexible work arrangements.
The demand for adaptable solutions in canteen operations is more critical than ever. Kanpla’s platform addresses these challenges by digitizing operational processes and enhancing the customer experience.
Jonas Gøttler, COO and Co-Founder of Kanpla, emphasized the company’s mission to drive digital transformation within the contract catering sector.
He noted the significant challenges posed by changing workplace cultures, including increased food waste, excessive manual processes, and disjointed systems.
Gøttler stated that software solutions can play a crucial role in resolving these issues, positioning Kanpla as a potential global leader in contract catering technology. The company aims to assist chefs worldwide in saving time while providing an optimal customer experience.
Additionally, Gøttler pointed out that Kanpla’s platform is designed to revolutionize the contract catering landscape by addressing the key concerns of food waste reduction, achieving ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) targets, and managing erratic customer demand.
By offering a flexible and efficient digital solution, Kanpla seeks to empower canteens to adopt streamlined operations and sustainable practices, responding to the increasing demand for eco-friendly dining options in both corporate and educational environments.
In just 18 months, Kanpla has evolved from a Danish startup into a multinational software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider, expanding its reach into ten countries, including those in Scandinavia, the UK, and Benelux.
Currently serving over 3,000 canteens in workplaces and schools, Kanpla facilitates interactions for more than 250,000 users, who can access menus, review nutritional information, purchase meals, and earn loyalty points through the platform.
This swift growth illustrates the pressing need for digital transformation in Europe’s contract catering market, where Kanpla’s technology enables caterers to create personalized experiences while effectively managing fluctuating customer volumes and minimizing waste.
The recent funding will support Kanpla’s plans to launch its services in the U.S. by 2025, further broadening its influence and offering cutting-edge catering solutions to American clients.
