GLOBAL – Fried chicken restaurant chain Papa Johns has appointed Jenna Broomberg as its new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), replacing Mark Shambura.

Papa Johns announced that Jenna Bromberg’s appointment as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) will take effect on November 14.

Bromberg, who joins from retailer Carter’s, will be responsible for overseeing the pizza chain’s marketing strategy, brand development, digital customer experience, creative initiatives, and product innovation.

Reporting directly to CEO Todd Penegor, she will also join the executive leadership team.

According to the CEO, one of Bromberg’s key tasks will be leveraging data to drive creative campaigns that appeal to both current and new customers. Other current priorities for Papa Johns’ marketing include enhancing its value perception and expanding digital and loyalty-based experiences.

Jenna brings extensive experience in the restaurant, franchising, and retail sectors. She is known for her transformative brand campaigns and deep consumer insights,” Penegor said during a call on Papa Johns’ Q3 results, “Her blend of expertise in quick-service restaurants and modern retail marketing will be a valuable asset to our team.”

Bromberg, who served as Vice President of Brand Marketing and Creative at Carter’s, previously held a core marketing role at Pizza Hut, where she worked for over five years.

Her new position at Papa Johns marks a return to the pizza industry, rounding out her career experience.

Papa Johns is currently working to overcome challenges, with North American comparable sales down 6% year-over-year in Q3 due to what Penegor described as a “very challenging consumer environment.” Bromberg’s appointment is part of a broader executive reshuffle at the company.

Penegor, who took on the CEO role in August after serving as an executive at Wendy’s, recently appointed former Wendy’s colleague Kevin Vasconi as Chief Digital and Technology Officer at Papa Johns in September.

Bromberg succeeds Mark Shambura, who left in July to become CMO at Panera Bread. During his time at Papa Johns, Shambura led initiatives such as refreshing the “Better Ingredients, Better Pizza” messaging and shifting creative responsibilities to The Martin Agency and media to Carat.
