NORTH AMERICA – Point-of-sale (PoS) and e-commerce software provider Lightspeed Commerce has launched the Kitchen Display System (KDS), a software solution designed to improve order management in high-volume restaurant kitchens.

Lightspeed revealed the Kitchen Display System (KDS) is meant to enhance the omnichannel experience for restaurant merchants by blending automation with human-driven service.

The system is designed to help restaurants efficiently manage orders, optimize workflows, and minimize waste. This initiative follows a survey conducted by Lightspeed involving 400 restaurant employees in the US and Canada.

The KDS provides real-time updates across devices, ensuring better communication between front-of-house and back-of-house teams.

It addresses common service challenges, such as last-minute order changes and order miscommunication, by instantly reflecting updates and enabling kitchens to adjust quickly.

Moreover, its customizable workflows prioritize tasks and streamline operations, particularly during peak hours.

By operating paperlessly and automating order accuracy, the KDS significantly reduces paper and food waste.

The system integrates seamlessly with Lightspeed’s Tableside service, powered by Tap to Pay, and the unified POS system, ensuring orders flow directly into the kitchen. This technology is now available to Lightspeed Restaurant merchants across North America, Europe, and other regions.

Adoniram Sides, Lightspeed Hospitality’s SVP, highlighted the system’s potential to improve efficiency in high-pressure environments, stating, “Kitchens can be chaotic, but with the right tools, they don’t have to be. Lightspeed KDS helps teams thrive, even under pressure.”

With instant updates, communication between front-of-house and back-of-house significantly improves, restaurants reduce waste, and diners get even better service.”

Sides also emphasized its versatility in managing online orders, pickups, and dine-ins, ensuring seamless communication and operational efficiency.

This launch aligns with Lightspeed’s broader strategy of offering innovative solutions to simplify restaurant operations.

In October, the company enhanced its integration with the team management platform 7shifts, focusing on streamlining payroll and other operational processes for restaurant owners in North America.

Through this collaboration, Lightspeed users in the US can now access 7shifts’ advanced payroll features, including payroll administration, tip integration, and benefits management.

By automating these tasks, restaurant owners can shift their focus toward improving customer experiences. This partnership further reinforces Lightspeed’s commitment to addressing the hospitality industry’s labor and operational challenges with efficient, technology-driven solutions.
