ANGOLA – TAAG Angola Airlines, Angola’s flagship carrier, is set to assume the presidency of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) in 2025, marking a notable milestone in the nation’s aviation history.

The announcement came during the 56th AFRAA Annual General Assembly held in Cairo, Egypt, from November 17 to 19, where over 500 key delegates from the global aviation industry gathered to discuss pressing issues in the sector.

The event also set the stage for Angola to host the 57th AFRAA Annual General Assembly in 2025, with TAAG Angola Airlines taking a central role.

“This is an opportunity for Angola to highlight its strengths in aviation and economic potential,” said António dos Santos Domingos, Chairman of TAAG Angola Airlines.

The 2025 presidency is expected to boost Angola’s visibility as a regional hub and underline its growing influence in global aviation.

Hosting the AFRAA assembly will also showcase the country’s latest infrastructure developments, including the New Luanda International Airport, Dr. António Agostinho Neto.

Nelson de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines, will take over the rotating presidency of AFRAA, ensuring Angola’s active contribution to shaping the future of African aviation.

“This is not just an achievement for TAAG but for Angola as a whole. We are ready to represent the continent and foster collaboration among industry players,” Oliveira stated.

The General Assembly provides a platform for discussing critical aviation issues, such as improving air transport connectivity, sustainability, and competitiveness across Africa.

It also opens doors for networking and forming partnerships, which are essential for the continent’s aviation growth.

TAAG Angola Airlines has already begun initiatives to bolster its operations. The airline recently initiated the transfer of its commercial flights to the state-of-the-art New Luanda International Airport.

The move began with domestic flights on November 10, 2024, and will expand to include all routes by early 2025.

In addition to infrastructure upgrades, TAAG is expanding its fleet and adopting digital advancements to stay competitive.

These efforts align with preparations for the Open Sky Agreement, which aims to enhance competition and connectivity within Africa.

The AFRAA General Assembly is recognized as the continent’s leading aviation forum, attracting CEOs, regulators, and industry stakeholders from around the world.

Angola’s hosting of this prestigious event will provide an opportunity to promote tourism and trade while strengthening its position in African aviation.
