NAMIBIA – Mokuti Etosha Lodge, located just outside Namibia’s iconic Etosha National Park, is entering the second phase of a major renovation effort aimed at enhancing its facilities and visitor experience.
This ambitious project is being spearheaded by O&L Leisure, a Namibian property group committed to maintaining the lodge’s reputation as one of the country’s premier destinations.
Starting in January 2025, the second phase of renovations will focus on updating all guest rooms, with plans to add new luxury suites and refresh existing spaces with a modern design.
These updates are set to be completed by June 2026. Sven Thieme, Managing Director of O&L Leisure, emphasized that the work will be carried out in stages to ensure the lodge continues welcoming guests throughout the renovation period.
“Our guests remain our top priority,” Thieme said. “These upgrades reflect our commitment to delivering world-class service and creating lasting memories for everyone who visits.”
In addition to the room improvements, construction of the Skyboma—a unique outdoor venue for gatherings—will begin during this phase.
The Skyboma is slated for completion by August 2025 and promises to offer guests a serene space to enjoy the natural beauty of Namibia’s starlit skies.
The first phase of the project, completed in early 2023, focused on revamping public spaces. This included a redesign of the lodge’s restaurant, bar, pool area, and conference facilities.
These enhancements have already been well received by guests, strengthening Mokuti’s appeal as a top choice for travelers exploring the nearby Etosha National Park.
Mokuti Etosha’s location near the park’s eastern Namutoni Gate makes it a popular base for safari excursions, offering convenient access to one of Africa’s most renowned wildlife reserves.
A growing tourism market
The lodge’s improvements coincide with Namibia’s strengthening tourism sector. The Hospitality Association of Namibia recently reported that leisure travel dominated the market in 2023, with leisure stays accounting for nearly 90% of all bookings.
Experts predict this trend will continue in 2024, fueled by increasing interest in Namibia’s unique landscapes and wildlife.
Further boosting Namibia’s visibility, the Namibia Tourism Board recently completed a promotional roadshow in China, across Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai from October 27 to November 1, 2024.
This initiative, called “Beyond Dunes, Strong Fun,” aimed to attract Chinese tourists, a key market as global travel rebounds.
Thieme expressed optimism about the lodge’s role in the sector’s growth. “With these enhancements, we are not only elevating Mokuti Etosha but also contributing to Namibia’s broader tourism appeal.”
