UAE – Movenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach in Dubai has once again secured its place as a leader in sustainability by receiving the Green Globe certification for the eleventh consecutive year.
This prestigious recognition highlights the hotel’s ongoing commitment to environmentally friendly practices, placing it among only two properties in the UAE to hold the coveted Platinum certification.
The hotel’s latest Green Globe audit, conducted by sustainability consultancy Farnek, awarded it a strong 93% rating.
This was based on the hotel’s adherence to over 380 rigorous sustainability standards. Over the years, Movenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach has implemented a range of eco-friendly initiatives.
Notably, the hotel has introduced a water bottling plant to reduce plastic waste, installed air quality sensors to maintain a smoke-free environment, and employed motion sensors in car parks and stairwells to optimize energy use.
Waste segregation is also practiced across various hotel areas, from guest floors to kitchens.
Michael Goetz, the hotel’s General Manager, expressed his pride in the certification. “Green Globe is a sustainability program tailored for the hotel and travel industry, so we are thrilled to receive our platinum certification and be recognized as one of the region’s most environmentally friendly hotels,” Goetz stated.
“This certification reflects our ongoing dedication to sustainability, and while we are proud of what we have achieved, we are already looking forward to improving further in the coming year.”
In addition to the Green Globe audit, the hotel also participated in an energy audit carried out by Farnek under the ASHRAE Level II standards.
This audit assessed the hotel’s energy usage and identified potential areas for improvement. The findings revealed that the hotel’s energy performance was significantly better than the UAE average, with an energy consumption rate of 247 kWh per square meter.
Muna Al Nahdi, Head of Sustainability & Consultancy at Farnek, noted, “The hotel has the potential to cut its energy consumption by up to 10%, which would result in a reduction of carbon emissions by 1.6kg per guest night.”
Movenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach’s achievements come as part of a growing trend in the hospitality sector, where sustainability is becoming increasingly important to both businesses and travelers.
According to recent statistics, 81% of travelers consider sustainable travel essential, and 60% are willing to pay more for services that prioritize environmental responsibility.
This shift is expected to drive growth in the sustainable tourism market, with projections indicating an increase of US$335.93 billion in the coming years.
