THAILAND – Luxury restaurant brand Sorn has been awarded three Michelin Stars at official release of The MICHELIN Guide Thailand 2025 edition, the first restaurant in the country to receive the distinction.

Sorn, a restaurant that masterfully blends the traditions of Southern Thai cuisine with modern influences, has garnered recognition for its excellence.

Known for its meticulously crafted menu, which offers a harmonious balance of flavors, Sorn has made history by becoming the first and only restaurant in Thailand to receive the prestigious Three MICHELIN Stars.

Initially appearing in the 2019 Michelin Guide Thailand with a One MICHELIN Star, Sorn was promoted to Two MICHELIN Stars the following year. It has held this esteemed distinction for five consecutive years.

Its elevation to Three Michelin Stars in the 2025 edition is a testament to its consistent quality and commitment to excellence. Once seen as a stop along the way, Sorn has now become a destination in its own right.

The newly released Michelin Guide features 462 establishments, including the first-ever Three MICHELIN Stars, with Sorn’s promotion from Two Stars marking a significant achievement.

The guide also lists 7 restaurants with Two Michelin Stars (including one promotion from One Michelin Star), 28 One Michelin Star restaurants (4 new entries, and 1 promotion from Michelin Selected), 156 Bib Gourmand entries (with 20 new additions), and 270 Michelin Selected establishments (44 new entries).

Notably, 20 of the new additions are from Chon Buri, a newly covered destination in this edition.

Thailand’s culinary landscape continues to evolve with a new wave of modern Thai restaurants led by young, talented chefs.

Many of these chefs, often under 35, bring international experience or Western culinary education, creating innovative dishes that reimagine traditional Thai cuisine.

Their goal is to push the boundaries of contemporary Thai cooking while preserving its rich heritage.

Additionally, Thailand’s fine-dining scene is increasingly attracting chefs from around the world, who collaborate with local chefs, share their expertise, and mentor young teams.

A growing emphasis on sustainability and local sourcing is also evident, with chefs actively seeking local ingredients and working with eco-friendly producers. This focus on sustainable practices is motivating local chefs to embrace positive environmental changes.
