GHANA – The government of Ghana has introduced a visa-on-arrival system allowing tourists to enter the West African country without the need for pre-approval from December 1 2024 to January 15, 2025.
In a directive issued on November 28, 2024, Ghana’s Minister of Transport, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, instructed all airlines to promptly update their systems to implement a newly introduced pre-approval visa waiver policy.
This initiative supports the “Beyond the Return” vision, enhancing Ghana’s connections with the global African diaspora and promoting cultural exchange and economic development.
The waiver exemplifies Ghana’s commitment to providing a smoother and more accessible travel experience for international visitors and the African diaspora.
The policy aligns strategically with the “December in GH” campaign, part of the larger “Beyond the Return” programme, which builds on the success of the 2019 “Year of Return” initiative.
Together, these efforts position Ghana as a welcoming and culturally rich destination for global travelers and members of the African diaspora.
Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, highlighted the significance of this visa regime, encouraging visitors to seize the opportunity to participate in the exciting December festivities.
Since its launch, “December in GH” has established Ghana as a premier holiday destination, attracting tourists eager to immerse themselves in the nation’s vibrant arts, culture, and history.
The campaign invites global travelers and members of the African diaspora to reconnect with Ghana through unique cultural experiences.
Highlights of the festive season include events such as the Hogbetsotso Festival, the Kwahu Paragliding Festival, and concerts celebrating both traditional and contemporary Ghanaian music.
Airlines and local businesses are preparing for a surge in travel demand as the new policy is expected to boost bookings and foster vibrant cultural exchanges.
Tour operators are developing packages focused on heritage and cultural tourism, while airlines are gearing up to offer more direct flights to Ghana. The government has emphasized a smooth transition to the new visa process by ensuring airlines operating in Ghana comply with the updated regulations.
This initiative represents a cornerstone of Ghana’s tourism strategy, reinforcing its status as a leading African destination.
By offering a seamless travel experience and a wealth of cultural attractions, the policy supports Ghana’s goal of attracting more visitors and fostering deeper connections with the global African community, setting the stage for an enriching 2025 and beyond.
