Pernod Ricard introduces support, network system for hospitality players

SOUTH AFRICA – Global wines and spirits company Pernod Ricard has launched Share Inspire Pioneer (SIP), an initiative meant to offer support and networking opportunities to players and establishments in the foodservice, beverage and tourism sectors in South Africa.

The SIP initiative aims to foster connections across the hospitality industry, creating a platform to address critical issues, including the promotion of sustainable practices.

Its membership, available at no cost, provides access to valuable resources such as online digital marketing training, bartending courses, educational articles, and practical tips for navigating the demanding and fast-paced hospitality environment.

One of SIP’s core objectives is to encourage collaboration within the industry to facilitate upskilling and create opportunities for emerging professionals in South Africa.

Lorna Scott, creative director at Inverroche, highlighted that retaining talent and strengthening the local tourism and hospitality sectors are among SIP’s primary goals.

She noted that many experienced bartenders are seeking international opportunities in regions like Dubai and Europe due to better compensation and benefits.

This trend, which reflects broader industry challenges, underscores the need for initiatives like SIP to encourage knowledge sharing and empower South African service providers with growth opportunities.

As a well-established global advocacy movement, SIP recognizes and supports individuals and organizations driving positive change and innovation within the hospitality industry.

The sector, which continues to recover from the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, faces significant ongoing challenges. These include the closure of businesses, job losses, reduced salaries, and layoffs, both locally and globally.

Bo Saunders, brand advocacy manager at Pernod Ricard South Africa and SIP manager for South Africa, described SIP as an initiative dedicated to uniting professionals within the South African hospitality community.

He emphasized its mission to foster meaningful connections and inspire collaborative efforts toward building a sustainable future for the industry.

In South Africa, additional challenges arise from shifting consumer trends, high living costs, and rising expenses for consumables and electricity, which continue to strain the hospitality sector.

SIP also stresses the global interconnectedness of the industry and the importance of shared innovation and support.

Lauren Penny, Inverroche’s global brand ambassador, noted that SIP brings together leaders across hospitality, tourism, food, and beverage sectors. By facilitating this exchange of ideas, SIP is helping to build a resilient and sustainable industry that can adapt to current and future challenges.
