Eco-Luxury meets sustainability at Namibia’s Reverie Kalahari Pod

NAMIBIA – Gondwana Collection Namibia has unveiled its latest offering, the Reverie Kalahari Pod, an intimate and eco-conscious retreat set amidst the picturesque Kalahari dunes.

Officially opened on December 1, the exclusive property is located 30 kilometers northeast of Mariental and represents a blend of luxury and sustainable tourism.

Designed for two guests, the Reverie Kalahari Pod integrates seamlessly into its natural surroundings while offering unparalleled privacy and comfort.

The facility includes a luxury suite with an en-suite bedroom, open-plan kitchen, and spacious dining and lounge areas.

Guests can enjoy features such as a plunge pool overlooking a private waterhole and private dining services, all enhanced by uninterrupted Wi-Fi and mobile connectivity.

“The Reverie is an important step in our vision to provide travelers with secluded, high-end experiences within Namibia’s most iconic landscapes,” said Gys Joubert, Managing Director of Gondwana Collection Namibia. “This project demonstrates our commitment to sustainability while delivering comfort.”

The retreat draws inspiration from the cultural heritage of the Khoi San people, emphasizing environmental stewardship.

Rates start at NAD27,500 (US$1,524) per night for two guests, which includes meals, drinks, and immersive activities such as guided explorations of the Kalahari dunes.

Tourism’s growing impact on Namibia

Namibia’s tourism sector has been experiencing steady growth, with increasing numbers of visitors from Europe, particularly Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. In April 2024, the national room occupancy rate reached 58.2%, a notable improvement compared to previous years.

Travel and tourism now contribute approximately 12% to Namibia’s GDP and support 5.7% of total employment.

European tourists account for over half of all international visitors, while African tourists—including Namibians—make up 35.9%. Most travelers come for leisure, with fewer visiting for business or other purposes.

The World Travel and Tourism Council predicts continued growth in 2024, with the sector expected to hit record contributions to global GDP.

Namibia, benefiting from increased interest in sustainable travel, is positioned to attract more visitors from both European and African markets.

Following the launch of the Reverie Kalahari Pod, Gondwana plans to open the Ekipa Etosha Pod in February 2025, further expanding its Secret Collection. Each addition reflects the group’s focus on combining secluded luxury with Namibia’s natural beauty.

“Namibia offers visitors a chance to connect deeply with nature while contributing to the local economy,” said Joubert. “Our Secret Collection is part of that experience, where tranquility and sustainability go hand in hand.”
