GLOBAL – Dr. Stephan Hungeling has been named the new Chief Transformation Officer and Managing Director of Steigenberger Hotels GmbH, effective April 1, 2025.
This move marks a pivotal moment for the company as it continues its strategic realignment and focus on global growth.
Dr. Hungeling joins Steigenberger Hotels after an accomplished career in business strategy and transformation. He previously led The Christ Group, a German jewelry and watch supplier, where he successfully turned the company into a multichannel, digitally-driven enterprise.
Additionally, he served as Chief Financial Officer at Douglas GmbH, a global cosmetics and perfumery brand, for over three years.
In his new role, Dr. Hungeling will oversee the company’s transformation efforts and manage day-to-day operations. He takes over from Oliver Bonke, who will remain with Steigenberger Hotels as a member of the Supervisory Board.

Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Bender, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, praised Dr. Hungeling’s credentials, stating, “Stephan brings exceptional expertise in strategy, transformation, and digitization. We are confident that his leadership will build on the progress made under Oliver Bonke, particularly in integrating with H World and transitioning to an asset-light business model.”
Outgoing Managing Director Oliver Bonke also endorsed his successor: “Dr. Hungeling has shown an ability to foster dynamic and modern cultures while delivering outstanding business results. I look forward to collaborating with him as he takes the company forward.”
