IHG appoints Sayed Tayoun as cluster GM for Abu Dhabi properties

UAE – IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the appointment of Sayed Tayoun as the cluster general manager for InterContinental Abu Dhabi and InterContinental Residences Abu Dhabi.

Tayoun, a hospitality veteran with over two decades of experience, is known for his strong leadership, focus on guest satisfaction, and operational expertise.

Speaking about his new role, Tayoun said, “InterContinental Abu Dhabi has a rich legacy, and I’m committed to maintaining its status as a premier destination while introducing innovative services that cater to both new and returning guests.”

He will oversee operations at the landmark InterContinental Abu Dhabi, a property steeped in history since its establishment in 1981, and the luxurious InterContinental Residences Abu Dhabi.

Both properties are recognized for their outstanding amenities, including seven renowned dining venues and premium living spaces.

Tayoun’s previous roles demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability and community-driven initiatives.

While serving as general manager of Holiday Inn & Suites Dubai Science Park, he led efforts to reduce environmental impact by eliminating single-use plastics and implementing an in-house water bottling system. These actions set a benchmark for eco-friendly practices in the region’s hospitality sector.

His efforts have not gone unnoticed. Tayoun’s contributions earned him a spot on Hotelier Middle East’s 2024 GM Power List, a testament to his influence in the industry.

Fluent in multiple languages and holding advanced certifications from Cornell and Harvard, Tayoun embodies the qualities needed to lead IHG’s flagship properties in Abu Dhabi.

Alongside this leadership development, IHG Hotels & Resorts is further solidifying its presence in Abu Dhabi through an ambitious collaboration with Aldar, a prominent UAE real estate developer.

This partnership focuses on repositioning properties on Yas Island and beyond, enhancing the city’s appeal as a global hospitality hub.

As part of this initiative, six hotels within the Yas Plaza complex will be transformed into distinct properties under IHG’s Vignette Collection.

The project includes the addition of private beach access, an underground tunnel for convenience, and a vibrant retail and dining area. Once completed, the development will offer 1,389 new rooms, significantly boosting IHG’s portfolio in the UAE.

Additionally, the former Tilal Liwa Hotel in the Al Dhafra region will be converted into a luxury Vignette Collection resort. This property, set to open fully by mid-2025, will feature 110 keys and cater to high-end travelers seeking an exclusive retreat.

With Tayoun at the helm and bold expansion plans underway, IHG continues to strengthen its leadership in Abu Dhabi’s competitive hospitality market.

The blend of strategic investments and seasoned management underscores the company’s commitment to delivering exceptional experiences while fostering sustainable growth.

As Tayoun puts it, “This is an exciting time for IHG in Abu Dhabi. By building on the city’s heritage and offering world-class service, we aim to set new standards in the industry.”
