ANGOLA – TAAG Angola Airlines has entered into a significant partnership with Lufthansa Technik AG to ensure comprehensive technical services for its new fleet of Boeing 787 aircraft.
This 12-year agreement, which began with the delivery of the first aircraft in February, underscores the Angolan flag carrier’s commitment to maintaining high operational standards.
The agreement centers around Lufthansa Technik’s Total Component Support (TCS) program, which provides access to a global pool of spare parts.
This arrangement aims to enhance the availability and efficiency of components for TAAG’s Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 Dreamliner fleets.
“With their strong support, we are looking forward to a quick ramp-up of our new 787 and A220 operations,” said Nelson Oliveira, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines. “Our partners’ reliable component support will ensure smooth operations from day one.”
The collaboration also includes services for TAAG’s Airbus A220 aircraft, complementing the airline’s ongoing expansion.
Lufthansa Technik’s role extends to an Aircraft Production Inspection Program (APIP), monitoring quality during manufacturing and ensuring readiness before the planes are handed over to TAAG.
Under the TCS agreement, Lufthansa Technik offers a range of services, from component maintenance and repair to logistics support and Aircraft On Ground (AOG) assistance.
These measures are designed to optimize technical operations and reduce costs, a crucial factor as TAAG integrates modern aircraft into its fleet.
Kai-Stefan Roepke, Vice President of Corporate Sales for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa at Lufthansa Technik, emphasized the importance of this partnership.
“This marks one of our largest contracts for Dreamliner component services in sub-Saharan Africa. We are honored to support TAAG Angola Airlines as they advance their operations with new aircraft types.”
The partnership comes at a time of significant developments in the aviation industry. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) recently unveiled its 2026-2050 Strategic Plan, emphasizing safety, sustainability, and inclusivity.
With passenger numbers projected to rise from 4.6 billion in 2024 to 12.4 billion by 2050, the aviation sector faces both opportunities and challenges.
TAAG’s collaboration with Lufthansa Technik aligns with these global goals by prioritizing advanced maintenance practices and operational efficiency. As Oliveira noted, “With two modern aircraft types joining our fleet almost simultaneously, having a reliable partner with technical expertise is invaluable.”
