AviaDev Africa 2025 to showcase Zanzibar’s growing aviation and tourism potential

ZANZIBAR – Zanzibar prepares to host AviaDev Africa from June 11-13, 2025, aiming to strengthen its position as a global tourism and aviation hub.

The 2025 AviaDev Africa conference will take place in Zanzibar, with the event scheduled to run from June 11th to 13th.

Organized in collaboration with the Zanzibar Airports Authority (ZAA) and the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism (ZCT), the gathering promises to connect industry stakeholders while highlighting Zanzibar’s rich cultural and natural offerings.

Speaking about the significance of hosting AviaDev Africa, Seif Juma, Director General of ZAA, emphasized the event’s alignment with Zanzibar’s goals.

“We want to connect Zanzibar to the world and showcase the unique offerings of our island, from sandy beaches to historic Stone Town, spice farms, and vibrant culture,” he said.

Tourism and aviation are critical to Zanzibar’s economy, and the island has seen notable progress in recent years.

Zanzibar now handles over two million passengers annually, with traffic increasing by more than 30% year-on-year. The island has welcomed several new airlines recently, strengthening its air connectivity.

“We have been receiving airlines from various parts of the world almost every week,” Juma explained. “This season has been very encouraging. Our partnerships with stakeholders, including the tourism commission and airline associations, are helping us grow further.”

The conference will provide an opportunity to attract new markets, with a focus on Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. “There is great interest in Zanzibar, and we aim to show delegates what makes our destination special,” Juma added.

To accommodate growing demand, ZAA has made substantial investments in its aviation infrastructure. Construction is underway for Terminal One, dedicated to VIP and private jet operations, and Terminal Two, which will have the capacity to handle 1.4 million passengers.

These developments complement Zanzibar’s existing facilities and position the island to manage increasing traffic.

ZAA’s efforts have been recognized internationally. In 2023, Zanzibar’s airport won awards for its transformation in food and beverage services and for excellence among African airports serving fewer than two million passengers annually.

Delegates attending AviaDev will have the chance to experience Zanzibar’s charm beyond the conference halls.

Juma encouraged visitors to explore the island’s historical landmarks, such as Stone Town, with its narrow streets, Sultan Palaces, and Slave Trade monuments.

“Zanzibar has a rich history as a center for trade and culture. Visitors should also explore the spice farms and enjoy the unique flavors of our island,” he noted.

Delegates can also relax on serene beaches, engage in water activities, or visit Jozani Forest, home to playful monkeys and lush vegetation.
