Lootah Biofuels launches smart app to promote responsible UCO disposal across UAE

UAE – Lootah Biofuels has launched its smart app, available on both Android and iOS platforms, to encourage individuals, hotels, and restaurants across the UAE to responsibly dispose of used cooking oil (UCO) and support its circular economy initiative by recycling UCO into biofuel.

Lootah Biofuels has launched a smart app aimed at reducing the environmental risks associated with the improper disposal of used cooking oil (UCO), turning it into clean energy instead.

This initiative is part of the company’s broader effort to encourage sustainability in the hospitality and restaurant industries while promoting circular economy practices.

Since its founding in 2010, Lootah Biofuels has expanded its network of UCO suppliers, with significant contributions from the hospitality sector, including over 300,000 liters of used cooking oil per month from its top 10 partners alone.

The newly launched app, available in both Arabic and English, allows users to easily arrange for the home collection of used cooking oil.

This service eliminates the need for individuals and businesses, particularly hotels and restaurants, to dispose of oil in ways that could damage the environment or clog sewage systems.

Additionally, it helps reduce the costs associated with transporting oil to distant collection points. The app includes a map to locate nearby biodiesel fuel stations and collection centers, further simplifying the process for users.

To encourage active participation, the app rewards users with financial incentives, deposited directly into a digital wallet within the app, for contributing used cooking oil.

A built-in calculator allows users to track the amount of oil they’ve collected, promoting awareness of the positive environmental impact of their actions.

These efforts support the UAE’s sustainability goals and encourage both individuals and institutions to engage in eco-friendly practices.

Yousif Bin Saeed Lootah, Founder and CEO of Lootah Biofuels, emphasized the company’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices.

He noted that this initiative not only helps reduce the harmful environmental effects of improper oil disposal but also provides a cost-effective alternative to traditional fuel by turning used oil into biodiesel.

The increased use of biofuel in commercial transportation fleets is expected to reduce product and goods costs in the long run.

The app also plays a pivotal role in raising awareness about biofuels’ contribution to reducing harmful emissions and combating climate change.

Lootah also highlighted that this initiative will create job opportunities in oil collection, recycling, and biodiesel distribution, further benefiting the community while fostering sustainability.
