SOUTH AFRICA – Marriott International has appointed Johan Cronjé as the new Regional Vice President for Sub-Saharan Africa, based in Cape Town.
Cronjé will oversee Marriott’s managed and franchised operations across the region, further enhancing the brand’s presence and operational excellence.
Johan brings over 20 years of experience to his new role, making him a strong candidate for this important position.
He started his career at Protea Hotels by Marriott in 2001 and has since held several key leadership positions within Marriott International. His in-depth knowledge of the Sub-Saharan African market and expertise in operational management have been vital to Marriott’s success in the region.
Neal Jones, the Chief Operating Officer for Europe and Africa, Premium & Select at Marriott International, commended Cronjé’s leadership, stating that he possesses a deep understanding of the Sub-Saharan African market and a proven record of operational excellence.
Jones noted that Cronjé’s leadership would be crucial as Marriott continues to expand its presence in the region, deliver outstanding guest experiences, and pursue new growth opportunities.
Cronjé’s career trajectory highlights his leadership and commitment. He began as the General Manager at Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! by Marriott in Cape Town, later overseeing the opening of the Menlyn property.
As Regional General Manager, he managed a portfolio of properties in South Africa and Tanzania, further enhancing his reputation.
In 2019, he became the opening General Manager of Johannesburg Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch and Marriott Executive Apartments, and his success in this role led to his appointment as Cluster General Manager, overseeing multiple properties in the Melrose Arch Precinct.
More recently, Cronjé served as Area Director of Operations for Sub-Saharan Africa, leading operational strategies and key business initiatives across the region.
As Regional Vice President, he is focused on driving Marriott International’s expansion and strengthening the company’s operations in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Cronjé expressed his pride in assuming the role, recognizing Sub-Saharan Africa as an important growth market for Marriott International.
He emphasized the importance of collaborating with Marriott’s teams, owners, and partners to enhance guest experiences, improve performance, and expand the company’s footprint.
Marriott’s portfolio in Sub-Saharan Africa continues to grow, with over 110 properties and 14,300 rooms across 18 countries.
The company offers a variety of brands catering to all types of travelers, ensuring Marriott’s position as a key player in the global hospitality industry.
