UAE – DA BUREAU, the innovative London-based architect’s studio, has unveiled the world’s largest 3D-printed restaurant interior at MYATA Platinum Lounge, a hookah lounge with a restaurant and bar located in Dubai’s City Walk, within the C2 Licensed District.
The focal point of the project features 27 distinctive “canyons,” constructed from over 20,000 3D-printed components produced using 35 3D printers.
Each of these structures is made from recycled plastic and coated with textured paint, illustrating the use of sustainable materials in high-end design.
By incorporating recycled plastic, the project aligns with the Arab building sector’s objective of reducing carbon emissions by 8.8 million tons annually by 2030 through advanced technologies.
To bring this concept to life, the studio designed the interior inspired by the ever-evolving nature of a sand canyon, shaped by water and wind.
The flowing, organic forms were reinterpreted in a modern way using 3D printing, resulting in whimsical, fluted structures that create an inward-focused, introverted space.
Externally, these curving rocky shapes form a terrace, offering privacy and separation from the city. Inside, they define the layout, dividing the space into individual zones.
Boris Lvovsky, CEO and co-founder of DA BUREAU, shared that the design reflects this dynamic geological process.
The entrance canyon employs a funnel-like design, guiding visitors from the street into the lounge area. Notably, the interior remains hidden from view from both the facade and the entrance hall.
Entering the main lounge evokes a cave-like experience, leading through narrow, dark corridors to an expansive open area.
The project showcases DA BUREAU’s dedication to pioneering, environmentally-conscious design.
Lvovsky emphasized that the design transforms recycled plastic into striking canyon-like formations, creating an immersive environment that transports guests from Dubai’s urban pace to a calm, cave-like retreat.
Collaborating with the “Yarko-Yarko” studio, the lounge features an innovative lighting scheme that enhances the sensory experience.
The dark space is bathed in soft amber lighting, accentuating the canyon’s intricate topography, tables, and bar counters.
The primary lighting technique is complemented by artistic effects, such as highlighting clouds of steam from a hookah or creating a mesmerizing halo in certain areas.
The MYATA Platinum Lounge stands as a remarkable achievement in architecture, blending sustainable materials, cutting-edge technology, and artistic vision to provide an extraordinary hospitality experience.
The Middle East’s construction sector is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.4% from 2021 to 2025, with sustainability at the forefront, positioning DA BUREAU to benefit from this growth.
