McDonald’s to launch first Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad, India

INDIA – The largest QSR brand in the world, McDonald’s has announced plans to set up its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

McDonald’s is set to establish a new centre focused on business, technology, analytics, and artificial intelligence, catering to customers worldwide.

This initiative represents a substantial investment in the city’s reputation as a global hub for business and innovation.

The fast-food giant has secured two floors at RMZ Nexity Tower 20, covering 200,000ft², with operations slated to begin by mid-2025.

Leasing at a rate of INR 90 (US$1.03) per ft², this facility will become McDonald’s largest Global Capability Centre (GCC) outside the United States and is expected to employ 2,000 people.

GCCs are established by multinational corporations to leverage local talent and technological expertise while optimizing operational costs.

These centres play a crucial role within the parent organization, overseeing key business functions. In alignment with this expansion, McDonald’s has formally registered the McDonald’s Capability Centre India with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

Hyderabad has been gaining recognition as a preferred location for GCCs due to its strong talent pool and well-developed infrastructure, as highlighted by industry analysts.

In Q2 2024, the city recorded office space transactions of two million ft², representing 11% of the 18.5 million ft² transacted across eight major Indian cities.

GCCs accounted for more than half of Hyderabad’s office space uptake during this period, contributing significantly to the local economy.

This move aligns with McDonald’s broader efficiency-driven strategy and follows a recent overhaul of its top leadership.

In January 2025, McDonald’s USA announced that Alyssa Buetikofer, currently serving as chief marketing officer for McDonald’s Canada, would take on the role of senior vice-president, chief marketing officer, and customer experience officer for McDonald’s USA.

Buetikofer is set to assume her new position on 15 February 2025, succeeding Tariq Hassan, the current chief marketing and customer experience officer, who is stepping down to focus on personal commitments.

Hassan, who joined McDonald’s in September 2021 following a three-year tenure as CMO at Petco, will remain through most of Q1 2025 to facilitate a smooth transition.

Under his leadership, McDonald’s introduced successful initiatives such as adult Happy Meals and Grimace’s birthday campaign.

Additionally, the brand launched a Pokémon-themed Happy Meal promotion in the US, featuring a trading card game booster pack with four collectible cards from a set of 15, along with a themed poster and sticker sheet included with each meal.
