INDIA – Zomato’s board of directors has approved renaming the Indian online food delivery company to Eternal.
Zomato has officially announced a corporate name change to Eternal in a recent filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). While the consumer-facing Zomato app will retain its existing name, the change will be reflected in stock market listings.
Speculation about a potential rebranding first surfaced in 2022, but at the time, CEO Deepinder Goyal dismissed the rumors, describing “Eternal” as an internal designation.
However, with Blinkit becoming a key growth driver, the decision to adopt Eternal as the company’s official name has now been confirmed.
Under the Eternal umbrella, Zomato will continue its focus on food ordering, delivery, and restaurant discovery, while Blinkit will serve as its quick-commerce division.
The company’s B2B restaurant supply arm, Hyperpure, and logistics enterprise, District, will also operate within the new corporate structure.
Goyal explained in the BSE filing that the internal use of the name Eternal began after acquiring Blinkit, as a way to distinguish the company from its consumer brands.
He noted that the official renaming signifies the point at which Blinkit has become a major driver of the company’s future.
Describing the significance of the name, Goyal acknowledged that “Eternal” carries both ambition and responsibility, emphasizing that the shift is not just a rebranding effort but a commitment to long-term growth and endurance.
In addition to the rebranding, Zomato recently launched the Accelerated Safety Response programme, an initiative aimed at improving the safety of its delivery partners.
Announced at the Sustainability and Inclusivity: Role of the Platform Economy conference in New Delhi in December 2024, the system is designed to detect accidents involving delivery personnel automatically.
The technology works through the delivery partner app, identifying crashes and immediately alerting Zomato’s central response team to dispatch emergency assistance.
The company highlighted that this real-time response could significantly reduce delays in critical situations.
Further supporting its safety initiatives, Zomato has provided more than 45,000 delivery partners with training in emergency first aid, basic life support, and CPR.
Chief Sustainability Officer Anjalli Ravi Kumar reiterated the company’s commitment to sustainability, emphasizing that the new safety response system is part of Zomato’s broader mission to enhance the well-being of its delivery workforce.
