Subway has partnered with FreedomPay to enhance its payment infrastructure through a unified end-to-end payment orchestration platform.
This collaboration is designed to modernize payment systems across Subway’s quick-service restaurant network, integrating transactions across in-restaurant, mobile, and online channels into a single platform.
The initiative aims to provide a seamless and secure payment experience for customers while ensuring consistent reporting for franchisees.
FreedomPay’s data-driven commerce platform is expected to simplify operations while delivering actionable insights to support Subway’s growth strategy.
According to Subway Chief Information Officer Dave Blankenship, FreedomPay’s solutions offer the flexibility to collaborate with multiple processors worldwide, enhancing transaction visibility, routing optimization, and security.
He noted that the partnership would improve the customer ordering experience while maximizing efficiencies and capabilities at checkout for franchisees.
As part of Subway’s broader digital transformation strategy, FreedomPay’s technology will facilitate effective payment management across various channels and geographic regions.
FreedomPay President Chris Kronenthal highlighted the significance of partnering with a globally recognized brand like Subway, emphasizing that the platform’s flexibility and scalability would ensure secure and seamless transactions at franchised locations worldwide.
Subway, which operates over 37,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries and territories, continues to innovate as part of its market consolidation strategy, prioritizing efficiency and novelty.
In January 2025, the company collaborated with the OREO brand to introduce the OREO Footlong Cookie, a warm dessert featuring chocolate cookie dough mixed with OREO pieces, topped with vanilla cream and additional cookie pieces.
That same month, Subway launched the Meal of the Day initiative in the U.S., offering a selection of freshly prepared menu items at a competitive price.
In October 2024, Subway expanded its dessert offerings with the limited-time Double Chocolate Peppermint Footlong Cookie.
Made with Double Chocolate Cookie dough, this seasonal treat was infused with peppermint extract, packed with chocolate and white chocolate chips, and topped with red and white candy cane pieces.
