SOUTH AFRICA – British multinational sandwich and coffee shop Pret a Manger restaurant has opened in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, offering a delightful dining experience.
The new Pret A Manger location in South Africa offers a diverse menu, featuring sandwiches, salads, wraps, baked goods, snacks, and an assortment of organic coffees, teas, and hot and cold beverages, meant to appeal to the country’s diverse culinary taste.
To celebrate its launch, the venue hosted live music with a DJ, attracting a lot of attention on the opening weekend.
The restaurant’s atmosphere was lively, despite the early hours, with various signs around the premises. Pret’s grab-and-go options, including cold sandwiches, hot toasties, and wraps, proved popular.
A footlong chicken baguette is priced at ZAR 62.00 (US$ 3.38), while a Haloumi and Falafel wrap costs ZAR 64.00 (US$ 3.44).
A classic cheese toasty is available for ZAR 55.00 (US$ 2.95). South African-inspired items like the Braaibroodjie and Chakalaka Chicken wrap are priced at ZAR 55.00 (US$ 2.95) and ZAR 64.00 (US$ 3.44), respectively.
All items are freshly made each day, staying true to Pret A Manger’s commitment to quality and freshness.
The Melrose Arch location also offers eight organic coffee options, including Latte, Cappuccino, Americano, Mocha, and Flat White.
Prices range from ZAR 27.00 (US$ 1.46) for a small Americano or White Americano to ZAR 49.00 (US$ 2.63) for a large Mocha or Spanish Latte.
Three organic milk alternatives—oat, almond, or soya—are available.
Other beverages on the menu include Organic Hot Chocolate, Organic Iced Coffee, Organic Teas, Coffee Frappes, and Real Fruit Juices, with prices peaking at ZAR 49.00 (US$ 2.63) for a Coffee Frappe or Organic Iced Coffee.
Millat Group CEO Hamza Farooqui emphasized that Pret A Manger’s organic and sustainable food offerings set them apart.
The move is part of Millat’s long-term strategy to expand into the organic food sector.
Pret A Manger CEO Pano Christou expressed excitement about the South African expansion, calling it a milestone in their global growth. He also highlighted the involvement of a local chef in crafting the menu to suit local tastes.
