USA – Wingstop, a Dallas-based restaurant chain, has announced it is testing an innovative AI-powered kitchen platform designed to speed up service and streamline tasks for back-of-house staff.
The new AI platform is expected to significantly reduce quote times and enhance service speed for online takeout or delivery orders.
The platform aims to cut down the time it takes to prepare customer orders while meeting expectations for swift service. It includes consumer-facing ready screens that keep guests informed about their order status and help manage their expectations effectively.
Wingstop CEO and president Michael Skipworth revealed that 30 restaurants have trialed the platform for over a year. He added that the company plans to expand its use during 2025.
Media outlets reported his remarks that the platform will allow a meaningful reduction in quote times and consistently deliver fast service. He highlighted the potential for the platform to generate more demand and improve employee productivity.
Skipworth stated that the new AI platform was built specifically for Wingstop and is designed to fundamentally change kitchen operations.
He explained that the system goes beyond simple digitization of kitchen tickets and order workflows by leveraging visual cues and gamification.
This approach is expected to speed up new team members’ competency, provide clear roles, and increase overall productivity. Skipworth believes that enhancing service speed will encourage customers to visit more frequently.
The announcement comes as part of Wingstop’s earnings report for the fourth quarter ending on 28 December 2024.
Wingstop operates 2,563 restaurants systemwide, with 2,204 located in the United States. Of these, 2,154 are franchised and 50 are company-owned. An additional 359 franchised restaurants are in international markets and US territories.
The company reported net income of US$26.7 million in Q4 2024, compared to US$18.8 million in Q4 2023. Total revenue for the fiscal fourth quarter of 2024 increased to US$161.8 million.
The platform’s integration leverages artificial intelligence to optimize kitchen workflows and reduce wait times, making overall service more efficient.
Experts believe the platform will drive significant improvements in operational efficiency. By integrating cutting-edge AI technology, Wingstop aims to streamline kitchen processes and improve order accuracy.
These enhancements are expected to boost customer satisfaction and encourage repeat visits.
Furthermore, the platform provides real-time updates that enable staff to promptly address any delays.
This innovation represents a strategic investment in technology that will support Wingstop’s growth and help maintain its reputation for quality service.
