UAE – Deliveroo UAE, in partnership with the UAE Food Bank, has launched “Collecteroo,” a groundbreaking initiative aimed at boosting food security and curbing food waste throughout the UAE.
As part of Deliveroo’s ongoing Full Life campaign, launched in the UAE in August 2022, the new initiative is set to transform surplus food management in the region.
Known as Collecteroo, this program is designed to collect and redistribute excess food to communities in need via the UAE Food Bank, supporting the nation’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
The Collecteroo Initiative
Under the initiative, a dedicated van will be deployed to gather surplus food from supermarkets, trading companies, hotels, and restaurants.
With nearly 500 tons of food expected to be collected each month, the Collecteroo van is positioned to become an essential component in the UAE’s efforts to reduce food waste while ensuring that excess food benefits those who need it most.
Taghrid Oraibi, Head of Communications at Deliveroo Middle East, reported that the launch of Collecteroo marked a significant milestone in the company’s strategy to reduce food waste and combat food insecurity.
She noted that the collaboration with the UAE Food Bank is intended to make a tangible difference for communities across the UAE, aligning perfectly with the goals of the Full Life campaign.
Partnership Impact and National Alignment
Manal Obaid bin Yaroof, Head of the Executive Team at the UAE Food Bank, stated that the initiative has the potential to support thousands of individuals every month by efficiently redirecting surplus food, thereby advancing the mission of building a sustainable food ecosystem.
The initiative is closely aligned with the UAE’s national target of reducing food waste by 50% by 2030, as outlined in the country’s food security strategy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
