NAMIBIA – Onguma Nature Reserve has launched the new Trails Camp, showcasing its commitment to sustainability through solar power and eco-friendly practices, while offering guests a memorable and environmentally conscious experience.
Onguma Private Game Reserve, located on the eastern edge of Namibia’s iconic Etosha National Park, has unveiled a new seasonal offering designed for adventure-seekers and nature enthusiasts.
The newly launched camp hosts guided two- and three-night walking safaris during the winter months, continuing through September.
These immersive experiences are restricted to a maximum of eight guests, ensuring personalized attention and minimal environmental impact.
The camp itself features four luxury bell tents, traditional circular canvas structures—each fitted with en-suite outdoor bathrooms and private wood-fired hot tubs.
With extra-length beds and premium bedding, the accommodation merges authentic wilderness immersion with elevated comfort.
Each day, guests participate in guided treks spanning four to five miles, offering close encounters with the region’s diverse flora and fauna.
The experience is rounded out by bush meals, sundowner game drives, and interactive evening sessions led by conservation experts, who provide deeper context on the area’s ecological richness.
Onguma’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the camp’s design, which uses solar power and eco-friendly amenities.
Shared spaces include hammocks, board games, and a firepit, providing relaxed settings for socializing after a day in the bush.
The new camp complements Onguma’s existing five-lodge portfolio within the reserve, which spans 86,935 acres and is home to wildlife including lions, leopards, and the rare black rhino.
Rates start at approximately US$1,370 per person (double occupancy), with guests required to be at least 16 years old and physically fit. Visitors also have the option to combine their stay with accommodations at Onguma’s other properties.
This addition follows Onguma’s broader strategy of innovation and inclusive access. In October 2024, the reserve introduced the So-Low Safari package, removing the single supplement during low season to appeal to independent travelers.
The off-peak period presents added benefits such as fewer crowds, favorable weather, and optimal wildlife viewing near waterholes.
Onguma has also launched a partnership with the Ombili Foundation, creating a guided cultural village experience centered on Namibia’s San community.
The experience offers educational insights into traditional practices and supports local development through craft purchases and cultural exchanges.
